Uecomm Limited today announced extensive corrective action has been taken to address malfunctioning internet switches on its broadband network, and it has resumed connecting new customers to the network.
As reported on 19 April, 2001, Uecomm had experienced failures with its Internet Protocol version 6 (Ipv6) switching equipment. An interim moratorium was consequently placed on the connection of new customers, which has now been lifted.
Uecomm is confident its network is stable and it will continue to monitor it to ensure a high-quality, reliable service is maintained.
Uecomm has also taken steps to address its fibre-optic cable shortage, with the Company now sourcing fibre-optic cable from offshore sources in addition to its Australian sources of supply. Uecomm has accumulated approximately a one-month supply of fibre-optic cable.
The corrective action is the result of an extensive operational review undertaken in recent weeks, with the aim of rectifying operational issues raised in the Company’s 19 April ASX announcement. The review, which is being undertaken with the support of major shareholder United Energy, will continue until the Directors are satisfied that all issues have been appropriately resolved.
