United Energy subsidiary, Uecomm, today announced that it has secured a five year contract with Vodafone Australia to provide further access to the Uecomm fibre optic network.
The deal, worth in excess of $20 million over an initial five year term, covers access to portions of Uecomm's fibre network in Sydney and Brisbane. Vodafone has the option to extend the agreement for further four, five year periods.
In July last year, Uecomm and Vodafone announced a $14 million agreement covering access to other elements of Uecomm's fibre networks in Melbourne and Sydney.
Uecomm managing director, Mr Keith Ondarchie said, "This is an exciting development for Uecomm. As fibre optic technologies become more and more in demand, the Company is growing rapidly."
In commenting on the further contract with Uecomm, Mr Andrew Bissex, Managing Director, Vodafone Australia, said that Vodafone was looking forward to strengthening its network using Uecomm's extensive metropolitan area fibre optic networks. He said the timely expansion of Uecomm's network to accommodate the original enhancement to the Vodafone network was an important factor in securing this new agreement.
Mr Bissex said that customer demand and growth had encouraged Vodafone to seek a reliable partner in Uecomm, which not only has bandwidth capacity, but also the ability to provide real time monitoring, maintenance and the capacity to accommodate additional growth.
Uecomm was established in 1997 as a subsidiary of United Energy, Australia's third largest energy distribution and retail company. Today, Uecomm has expanding metropolitan networks in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.
