United Energy subsidiary, Uecomm, today launched what it claims is the most cost effective, high speed internet service available in Australia.
Uecomm's Managing Director, Mr Keith Ondarchie, said the new service, called 'UNITE', "is the first of a new generation of low cost, advanced technology Internet services which sets a new benchmark for the industry."
Using Uecomm's extensive high speed fibre optic cable networks in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland, Mr Ondarchie said that Unite makes inexpensive broadband access a viable option for many small, medium and large businesses for the first time.
"We are offering access to the most advanced Ethernet technology in the world, with access speeds of up to one Gigabyte per second, at breakthrough pricing levels for Australia," said Mr Ondarchie.
"While this high speed technology has been available in Australia for some time, it has been prohibitively expensive for most users to date. UNITE breaks through the high cost barrier. It's a very competitive strategy which others will find hard to beat."
He said that following the launch of UNITE, Uecomm planned to be one of the five largest Internet service providers in Australia by the year 2001.
Uecomm was established in 1997 as a subsidiary of United Energy, Australia's third largest energy distribution and retail company. Today, Uecomm is one of Australia's leading NAPs (network access providers), with 600 kilometres of fibre optic cable networks in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. Providing high speed broadband access, these networks are used for Internet, e-commerce, voice, data and video applications. Uecomm has grown rapidly since its inception and has a projected revenue of over $40 million for the year 2000.
