Uecomm addresses business continuity and disaster recovery

Uecomm has announced a partnership with Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) specialist, Nortel, to provide optical solutions which meet the growing demand from large enterprises for advanced, high-speed data services.

These new managed services including real-time storage, business continuity and disaster recovery in the Australian market from Uecomm will allow customers to secure and protect critical business information. Consolidation of servers and storage will also enable the simplification of networks.

"The Australian market has been experiencing a growing demand for high-volume data transmission, especially for large financial and government institutions," said Brendan Park, Director Strategy and Marketing, Uecomm. "Real-time data transmission opens up completely new business opportunities for these organisations and sets new standards for reliable and secure data networking and storage."

This is a significant industry partnership.  The newly combined solution utilises the strengths and skills of Nortel, complementing Uecomm’s extensive fibre reach and flexible approach to delivering customised solutions.

The high-speed data services offered by Uecomm will allow critical business information to be mirrored at a remote site and be immediately available in the event of a business interruption like a power failure or network outage.

Anthony Mclachlan, General Manager, Carrier Sales, ANZ for Nortel, confirms the services will meet the stringent service level agreements demanded by the business continuity and disaster recovery plans of the financial, government, utility, education, health and organisations with mission critical applications in other sectors.

"Nortel is supporting Uecomm’s commitment to offer its customers secure and reliable high-speed data services," said Mclachlan. "Using Nortel’s metro DWDM? solutions, Uecomm can directly support their business customers storage protection requirements, simplifying their networks and reducing operational costs even more."

*DWDM or Dense Wave Division Multiplexing, is the technology by which the frequencies of light carried on a single optical fibre are subdivided into discrete wavelengths allowing for the greater transmission of data.

One of Australia's leading universities, the University of Sydney, has recently chosen to adopt this partnered solution, via Uecomm's MetroWave service. The system provides students and academic teams with the technology services they require.

The MetroWave solution chosen by the University of Sydney is ideally suited to business continuity and disaster back up. It provides the significant bandwidth required to enable synchronous data replication to remote sites, minimising data loss in the event of a fail-over. Typical applications for this service range from VoIP and videoconferencing to storage area networking, server and mainframe mirroring.

Uecomm's approach to MetroWave with the Nortel partnership is flexible and customised.  Each MetroWave service is tailored to the environment of individual customers to ensure that the service always meets their requirements.

Every network is different. Our focus is always the same. You.
