Uecomm Signs $3 Million Deal with Unwired

Australian fibre broadband specialist Uecomm, today announced it has been awarded a five year contract worth more than $3 million by wireless telecommunications provider, Unwired.

The deal will see Uecomm providing fibre broadband infrastructure for Unwired to interconnect its base stations to the company's point of aggregation at its data centre in Mascot, New South Wales.

The contract was signed under a Master Services Agreement (MSA) established between the two companies in December 2003.

According to David Spence, Chief Executive Officer of Unwired, Uecomm's offering gives Unwired the high-speed connectivity it requires at a competitive price.

"As a leading wireless broadband provider, we need to have the latest generation technology for Internet and voice services.  At the same time, we also need to ensure that our network has the capacity and reliability to offer quality services to our customers," said Spence.

"We reviewed several vendors but Uecomm's solution impressed us the most as it was able to deliver connectivity to multiple locations through its industry leading network.  It helped tremendously that Uecomm had a presence in the locations that we needed to be in."

The services purchased by Unwired include a number of Ethernet VLAN connections as well as a 500Mbps geographically diverse fibre link to ensure complete network redundancy.

Brendan Park, Director of Products and Marketing at Uecomm said the deal reinforces Uecomm's position as a carrier's carrier.

"Unwired is an up and coming wireless broadband company doing exciting things in its space while delivering innovative services and solutions to its customers. With Uecomm, Unwired will have a fully reliable and scalable network with the ability to carry a significant amount of data.  This, combined with our extensive reach and 24-hour support, will enable Unwired to run its business more efficiently thereby improving customer satisfaction," said Park.

Uecomm's services will be fully operational in the first half of 2004.
