Uecomm Boosts NSW DET Contract to $20Million

Uecomm Limited, the specialist fibre broadband carrier, announced today that it has been awarded a further contract, worth $11.5 million, to provide telecommunication services to the New South Wales Government’s Department of Education and Training (DET).

The $11.5 million contract is in addition to the contract announced on 31 October 2002 for $8.5 million, bringing the total contract value to more than $20 million over two years. Revenue from both contracts will commence in 2003.

Uecomm’s Chief Executive Officer, Peter McGrath said, "We are delighted by DET’s decision to award this additional contract to Uecomm. It is a considerable achievement for the Company, and confirms our strong position in the provision of cost effective broadband data services to corporations and government departments."

The Uecomm service will be delivered over Uecomm’s extensive Sydney metropolitan optical fibre network and will provide broadband connectivity to a large number of metropolitan NSW Government schools and TAFEs. The fibre network will deliver high levels of performance and functionality in addition to efficiency of cost, upgrades, scalability and maintenance.

Gigabit Ethernet technology is being increasingly adopted to satisfy demands for greater traffic levels and improved response times. The services provided by Uecomm will be Ethernet managed data services operating at 2 Mbps, 10 Mbps and 100 Mbps speeds.

Uecomm recently announced its third quarter business update, revealing total sales contracts worth approximately $16 million were sold in the third quarter. These two contracts with DET, totalling $20 million, are in addition to the $51 million in sales contracts secured for the nine months ended 30 September 2002. The Company is forecasting total revenue from operations between $41-$44 million for the year ended 31 December 2002.
