Uecomm Launches Metrowave

Uecomm, Australia's only specialised fibre broadband carrier officially launched their MetroWave service today. MetroWave is a wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) solution capable of simultaneously sending a range of protocols at very high speeds across a single optical strand.

Uecomm's Director of Products & Marketing, Brendan Park said that although Uecomm have been selling bespoke WDM solutions to Australian businesses since 1998, the service has now been productised, streamlining delivery to customers.

"No major business in Australia can afford to ignore the need for disaster recovery. 93% of companies in the US that lost their data centre for more than 10 days filed for bankruptcy within one year. 1

MetroWave is ideally suited to business continuity and disaster back up. It provides the significant bandwidth required to enable synchronous data replication to remote sites, minimising data loss in the event of a fail-over," he said.

Existing customers take advantage of Uecomm's extensive metropolitan reach, locating backup data centres in suburbs well away from the primary site to maximise the protection of their mission critical data. Redundant fibre rings provide an additional layer of redundancy.

MetroWave is a point to point managed WDM service that is delivered on Uecomm's secure and reliable infrastructure. The service offers low latency and the ability to customise solutions. It is possible for a customer to mix and match protocols, choose their preferred vendor equipment and connect to either a private or public data centre.

Typical applications for this service are storage area networking, server mirroring and mainframe mirroring.
