Uecomm Limited, the specialist fibre broadband data carrier, announced today that it has been awarded a two year, $8.5 million contract to provide telecommunication services to the New South Wales Government's Department of Education and Training (DET). The contract was awarded as a result of a tender where Uecomm was pre-qualified to quote under the DITM 2000.01 NSW State Government contract.
Uecomm's Chief Executive Officer, Peter McGrath said, "This contract is a major achievement for Uecomm and is further affirmation of the success of Uecomm's strategy to focus on selling broadband data services to large corporations, government organisations and other telecommunications service providers.
This contract clearly demonstrates that Uecomm's fibre broadband network is a leader in the Australian marketplace and has the capacity to deliver the latest applications essential to world class business and educational requirements," he said.
Mr McGrath said, "Students in NSW Government schools and TAFEs will benefit from the most advanced broadband services in the market today."
The Uecomm service, which will be delivered over Uecomm's extensive Sydney metropolitan optical fibre network, will provide broadband connectivity to a number of metropolitan NSW Government schools and TAFEs. The network will provide a high level of performance and functionality in addition to efficiency of cost, upgrades, scalability and maintenance.
The services provided will be Ethernet managed data services and will operate at 2 Mbps, 10 Mbps and 100 Mbps speeds providing the ability to deliver media rich applications such as video and interactive multi-media. The fibre based broadband network will ensure that whole classes or groups of classes can have high-speed on-line access at the same time - a key requirement in an educational environment.
Uecomm has performed strongly in the Government and education sectors in 2002. In addition to this contract, the Company has signed a number of other contracts, including the AARNet contract for the Sydney Basin Universities, Queensland Health, University of Queensland and a leading University in Victoria.
Uecomm will immediately commence work to deploy the network with the first of the services expected to be delivered in the first quarter of 2003.
