Uecomm delivers high speed data network to Centrelink

Sydney, Australia 24 January 2007 – Leading next generation networks provider, Uecomm, has been appointed to provide Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) fibre Ethernet solutions to more than 50 Centrelink sites in VIC, NSW, SA and QLD.

The long term contract, worth up to an estimated $10M, supports Centrelink’s communications upgrade known as the Data Network Redesign Project. The total amount of fibre that will be utilised by Centrelink for the MAN solution exceeds 400km and it will replace part of the frame relay and ISDN network Centrelink currently operates.

The MAN solution will deliver a huge boost to Centrelink’s bandwidth and allow the organisation to deliver enhanced customer applications with ease.

Uecomm’s CEO, Dean Tognella was delighted by the appointment and said that Uecomm was looking forward to providing high-speed fibre-based Ethernet services to Centrelink.

"The MAN solution will support a network with aggregate (or potential) bandwidth capabilities up to and beyond 1Gbps, a huge advantage over Centrelink’s current network capabilities. Uecomm’s future-ready network fully supports the convergence of video, voice and data, allowing Centrelink to cost effectively enjoy a significant increase in bandwidth."

"Uecomm’s network provides Centrelink with the business continuity capability to provide full carrier path diversity to its individual sites. This is an area which few Australian businesses have fully explored, and positions Centrelink as a truly innovative customer focussed organisation." Mr Tognella said.

Work on the Centrelink project is currently underway.
